Dugaan di Ambang Aidilfitri Part I

Today is the 9th day of Raya. I hope it's not too late for me to wish ya all Happy Hari raya. Maaf Zahir Batin from the bottom of my heart. This year is Segamat's turn (hubby's side). We went back to Segamat just a day before raya, and headed to my "kampung" on the second day raya. We brought back my parents back to USJ on the 6th day of Raya as they wanted to attend my cousin's wedding on the 7th Raya at Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang. Oh... jauh berdengung betul tempat tu. Bak kata orang tua-tua.. tempat jin bertendang.

Too many stories to be shared. I hope I can find the time to pen it down. But for tonight, I just want to share what happened to my darling Rizq just 2 weeks prior Raya.

My last entry was written on September 9. I remember that day, I was in a playful mood. So I went youtubing the songs that I like. I was youtubing with Rizq standing beside me sambil berjoget2 dengan sesenang hatinya.

At 12 pm he started to complain that he didn't feel well. He asked me "Ibu, kenapa Cici sakit?" I asked him sakit kat mana. He said sakit perut & kepala. I put my hand on his forehead & felt that he was slightly feverish. But when I checked his temperature with thermometer, his temperature was ok, below 37.5. But I bagi je lah paracetamol and put him to sleep. While he was sleeping, my Shad was playing games on the internet. He didn't go school that day because his class was used for UPSR exam. I went to the kitchen and started preparing chicken rice for buka puasa. Habis siap masak nasi & sup & sambal, I wanted to goreng the chicken tapi tak dapat sebab tiba2 gas habis.

Rizq woke up at around 3pm. He still complained that his head was aching. I suapkan nasi & sup and he was eating well. But after 5 or 6 suaps, he suddenly vomitted. I was a bit panicky as the colour of his vomit was like brownish. It was like blood and smelled like blood. But I tried to stay calm & scooped his vomit, put it in a small container & planned to ask doctor whether it was really blood. But I remembered the night before, he had chocolate Vienetta ice cream. I checked his temperature and it was just above 38 degrees celcius, not that high I thought. So.. cubalah pujuk hati.. maybe it was just chocolate ice cream. I called hubby and asked him to rush home to bring Rizq to the clinic. H1N1 ke budak ni?....

After my hubby came home, while we were getting ready to go the clinic, Rizq vomitted again. Again, it was brown in colour. I asked hubby whether he thought it was blood, but he said... tak kot.. ice cream semalam kot. At first nak bawaklah sample muntah dia gi clinic, the one that I scopped earlier, tapi ntah camna.. tertinggal pulak. On the way to the clinic, both me and hubby were contemplating whether to bring him to our usual clinic or to Klinik Cegah dan Rawat H1N1 or to the hospital. Since it was already 5pm plus, we decided to bring him to our usual clinic at Taipan as it was nearer.

At the clinic, he vomitted again. And again, it was brown in colour. We managed to tadah the muntah dalam plastic. We showed the vomit to the Doctor & the Dr said, it was not a good sign. She quickly wrote a referal letter to PPUM and asked us to bring him to the hospital as fast as we can. In the meantime, the Dr gave him paracetamol & another ubat (I can't remember what it was).. but Dr said something that will make him feel drowsy and sleep. The Dr suspected it was dengue or bronchiol pneumonia.

We didn't go straight to the hospital as we had the feeling that Rizq was going to get admitted at PPUM. So balik rumah dulu, pack barang lebih kurang & sempat jugak pack nasi ayam tanpa ayam tu, daging masak kicap leftover from sahur & some kuih-muih for buka puasa. Rizq muntah lagi dalam kereta, and again it was brown in colour.

The traffic out of USJ was quite bad that day. I just hugged my lil darling as close as I could. He was sleeping. Tears ran down profusely on my cheeks. I knew he was in pain. I would do anything just to take the pain away from him. If only we could switch bodies... Hubby and Shad just remained silent throughout the journey.

We reached A&E (Accident and Emergency) Paediatric UM at around 7pm. One thing good about PPUM, they have A&E for childrfen.. so tak payahlah bersusah2 dan bersesak dengan adults. We arrived at PPUM around 7pm. We expected large crowd.. maklumlahkan musim H1N1. But strangely, takde orang masa tu. Both A&E Paed & A&E adult kosong. It was so kosong, I even saw one doctor playing a game on his pc!

Rizq got attended immediately. The doctor took out blood sample from him and put him on drip. The doctor briefed us that they wanted to send his blood for dengue test and also renal and liver function test. The result would come out in 2 hours time, and they would decide whether to put him in ward only after they get the result. While waiting, Rizq was put on drip.

Iftar time, we buka puasa lebih kurang with kuih baulu & biscotti almond that I brought from home. We decided that we should gilir2 buka puasa butI was reluctant to leave Rizq, but hubby forced me to eat. So I brough Shad to a proper tempat makan, hoping to find some ayam goreng to be eaten with our "ayamless nasi ayam" that we brought. Tapi takde ayam.. in fact takde apa2 jual kat situ except for nasi lemak, toast bread, pau & jagung. Shad wanted pau kaya. I went to the stall and that's when I started to feel abit dizzy.. Argh... rasa nak pitamlah pulak..... The guy at the counter asked me "akak ok ke?". At that time I was like half squatting and had one hand holding on to the counter bar. I just replied, ok and quickly find a place to sit.

Both me and Shad makanlah apa yang ada.. nasi ayam, sup & daging masak kicap and hot Milo. Felt better after that. We went back to the A&E, and hubby took his turn to makan & solat.

We got the result at almost 9pm. He was confirmed to be dengue free (Alhamdulillah) & his renal and liver were functioning normally. But Dr ordered him to be warded for observation.

Lepas tu naiklah ward. We were briefed by the paediatrician at the ward that from the blood test, it was probably bacterial infection. I asked the Dr "How sure are you that it's not H1N1?" Ceh.. soalan macam I pulak doctor. Nasib baik Dr tak jawab balik I doctor ke you doctor?..he..he... Then she asked me whether Rizq had any contact with H1N1 patient, and I replied "not that I know of". So the Dr said that they will treat him with antibiotic first, and will put him under KIV for H1N1.

Hubby offered to jaga Rizq at the hospital and said that I should be resting at home as he knew that I had a rough day that day. Too much for me to handle he thought. But how could I leave my baby at the hospital. So I said takpelah biar i jaga. So that night I tidolah atas kerusi panjang yang boleh lipat2 tu. Rizq lepas dah dapat drip, he felt better and less irritable. It was not difficult at all to look after him that night. He was very cooperative with the doctors and nurses, and slept soundly throughout the night. It was me yang rasa restless semacam.. yalah kan... tido atas kerusi lipat2. Tido atas katil yang empuk kat rumah pun sakit2 badan, inikan pulak tido atas kerusi.

The next day (Thursday 10th Sept), Rizq got a bit better. Fever was still there in the morning, but he looked much better. he started to ask me a lot of things about doctors, nurses, sick people and that why God made people sick. The most difficult question was if God was kind, why would He make people sick? Ayoyo.... I can't remember what I said exactly but i explained la because God wanted us to think about him and pray to him, so "Cici doalah banyak2 kat Allah biar Cici cepat baik & boleh balik rumah main dgn Shad", I said. Tak tahulah dia paham ke tak kan konsep dugaan ni......

He got interested with his surroundings. Seeing him starting to be talkative again brought so much relief. My sis Kak Ajin who is a doctor at PPUM came and visit him and bought him books. My hubby also brought many story books for him. He got so engrossed with the books. It was not difficult to take care of him as he was confined to bed with one hand "tied up" to the IV drip. He was eating and drinking well. At noon, two doctors came and did throat swab eventhough at that time they still felt that it was not H1N1 as blood test pointed out to bacterial infection instead of viral. My sis also felt the same way (that it was bacterial infection). But they did the test anyway. By afternoon, his fever subsided already. The doctors also briefed me that Rizq had infections on his throat (acute tonsilitis) and in his right ear (otitis media). The good thing is that he was responding well to the antibiotics. They started with Pennicilin, but later on ENT specialist's advice, they changed it to Augmentin, a stronger antibiotic I was told.

The following day (Friday 11th Sept), he was off drip already. ha.. masa ni lah mula susah jaga budak kecik tu. Dia mulalah turun naik katil. Pegi visit katil2 orang lain, turun naik katil orang, bukak drawer orang. He played with one lil Indian toddler girl. He liked the girl so much he called her baby. When the doctors did their ward round that morning, they were happy with his progress but they thought it would be better to observe him for one more day. At that point, I pleaded to the doctors to discharge him as he was getting uncontrollable. Dah mula noti dah. Dr kesian pulak tengok I and said "kesianlah... mommy pregnant". They said, they will come and check on him again that afternoon & said kalau ok boleh balik.

He was discharged later that day at around 5pm. Alhamdulillah. I thought the ordeal was finally over.... until.....

to be continued.
